Teeth Whitening in Napa, CA
Professional whitening that lifts coffee, tea, and wine stains.
Living in wine country has its pleasures, and a deeper shade of enamel is often one of the side effects. Red wine, coffee, and tea all leave pigments behind, and store-bought strips rarely reach the stains that build up over decades.
Encore Dentist offers professional teeth whitening at our Napa office for adults who want a brighter smile, safely and evenly. Whitening is often the first step in cosmetic dentistry in Napa because it is simple, affordable, and the results are easy to see.
Whitening Options at Our Napa Office
Professional whitening uses stronger, dentist-supervised gels than drugstore kits, and you can choose the approach that fits your schedule. Before any whitening, we check for cavities, worn enamel, and gum irritation.
- In-office whitening: a single visit with professional gel and careful gum protection for fast results.
- Custom take-home trays: trays shaped to your teeth for gradual whitening at home over a couple of weeks.
- Combined approach: an in-office start followed by trays for touch-ups whenever you need them.
We help you choose based on your stains, your sensitivity, and how quickly you want results, and our team also provides blanqueamiento dental en Napa for Spanish speaking patients.
Dr. Kevin Cabugao
Because of my commitment to excellence some have labeled me as somewhat of a perfectionist… Although true to a certain extent, I disagree. Without the fear of being wrong, I sincerely care about everything I do and try my best to do it well.”
Born in Hawaii and raised in Vallejo, Kevin Cabugao received his BS in Genetics at the University of California at Davis and worked in biotechnology before refocusing his energies towards graduate school. While Kevin found his work in the pharmaceutical industry rewarding, he felt unsatisfied with his career and sought an education that would best complement his enthusiasm for helping others with his understanding of the sciences. With this intention, he received his MBA from California State University East Bay and DDS from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. Currently, he is an active member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association as a part of the Board of Component Relations and has served as the former President of the Napa/Solano Dental Society.
When away from the office, Kevin enjoys listening to music, snowboarding and honing his martial arts as a 4th degree Kajukenbo black belt with over 30 years of experience!
Dr. Paul Belusko
Born and raised in Oregon, Dr. Paul Belusko earned his degree in Biochemistry from Portland State where it was while working in Biotechnology that he realized his calling to serve others was best expressed as a compassionate care provider within dentistry. Soon after, Dr. Belusko attended dental school at Columbia University and graduated with high honors.
During this time, he had the privilege of volunteering as a student dentist serving throughout the rural parts of Jamaica and joined a hospital residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine that partnered with the nearby Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in the Bronx. As a resident he worked on complex dental cases and added advanced dental implant techniques to his clinical practice. With a surgical skill set greater than most general dentists, Dr. Paul has also earned his fellowship with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
After residency, Dr. Belusko returned to the West Coast to serve our veterans at the Washington State VA for several years. Soon after, he travelled south with his wife back to her home state of California, settling down in Napa to be closer to her family and to enjoy the natural beauty of our region as an avid skier, hiker and cyclist. With his wife, keeping his family and community first, Dr. Paul has two children and enjoys mentoring to the local youth as a Napa County 4-H leader in archery and at 4-H camp.
In-Office Versus Take-Home Whitening
Both professional methods work well. A 2024 umbrella review in Heliyon compared in-office and at-home bleaching and found no significant difference in color change between the techniques. In practice, the better option is usually the one you are most likely to use as directed.
The same review noted some tooth sensitivity is common with any method, so the choice often comes down to convenience. In-office whitening suits busy schedules, while take-home trays let you whiten gradually and keep your results fresh. Our Napa team can walk you through both before you decide.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Whitening
Whitening works best on natural enamel stained by food, drinks, tobacco, or age. Yellowish stains tend to respond well, while gray or very dark discoloration may need another approach. Teeth that darkened after an injury or root canal often fall into that second group.
Whitening does not change the color of crowns, veneers, or fillings. If you have visible dental work, we plan your shade carefully, and in some cases Napa porcelain veneers or tooth bonding in Napa may give a more even result. We set a realistic shade target with you before you begin.
Keeping Your Smile Bright in Wine Country
Your teeth are most prone to new staining in the first couple of days after whitening. During that time, try to limit red wine, coffee, tea, and dark sauces, and rinse with water after you enjoy them. Sipping water between glasses at a tasting also helps.
Long term, regular cleanings and occasional touch-ups with custom trays help your results last. Many patients whiten again before a wedding, a reunion, or the start of harvest season, and the same trays make those touch-ups simple at home.
Whitening Cost and Insurance
Because whitening is cosmetic, dental plans rarely cover it. It is one of the most affordable ways to refresh your smile, and take-home trays can be reused for future touch-ups. With results that can last one to three years, many patients find whitening a strong value.
As an out-of-network practice with one in-network carrier, Cigna, we give you a clear price before treatment. If you are combining whitening with other care, financing can help you plan larger costs. Pairing whitening with a routine cleaning lets your teeth start as clean as possible.

Teeth Whitening Questions
Does teeth whitening hurt?
Whitening does not hurt, but some people feel temporary sensitivity. We can use desensitizing products and adjust your treatment time to keep you comfortable, and most sensitivity fades within a day or two.
How long do whitening results last?
Results often last one to three years, depending on your habits. Coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco shorten that time, while touch-ups extend it.
Is professional whitening safe for enamel?
Professional gels are designed for controlled whitening under a dentist’s care. Our Napa team looks at your enamel and gums first and adjusts the plan if anything needs attention.
Can I whiten my teeth if I have crowns or fillings?
You can, but whitening only changes natural enamel. We plan your shade so your dental work still blends in, or discuss replacing it after whitening. Whitening first and then updating old dental work is a common sequence.
How soon can I drink red wine after whitening?
We suggest waiting about 48 hours, because teeth pick up stains more easily right after whitening. After that, rinsing with water between sips helps protect your shade.
