Dental Crowns in Napa, CA
Custom crowns that protect weak teeth and match your smile.
A cracked molar, a tooth with a large old filling, or a tooth that just had a root canal can all break under normal chewing. A crown covers and strengthens that tooth so you can bite down with confidence again.
Crowns are a core part of the restorative care at our Napa office. With a prosthodontic heritage behind our team, we plan each crown around how your teeth meet, not just how the single tooth looks, so it fits comfortably and lasts.
When a Dental Crown Helps
A crown is a custom cap that covers the whole visible part of a tooth. It restores shape, strength, and appearance when a filling is no longer enough. Your dentist may recommend a crown for:
- Cracked or broken teeth: holding the tooth together so the crack does not spread.
- Large fillings: protecting a tooth that has more filling than natural structure left.
- After a root canal: shielding a back tooth that has become more brittle.
- Worn or misshapen teeth: rebuilding teeth shortened by grinding or uneven wear.
- Implants and bridges: the visible tooth on top of a dental implant or at each end of a bridge.
For a small cavity, a tooth colored filling is usually the more conservative choice.
Dr. Kevin Cabugao
Because of my commitment to excellence some have labeled me as somewhat of a perfectionist… Although true to a certain extent, I disagree. Without the fear of being wrong, I sincerely care about everything I do and try my best to do it well.”
Born in Hawaii and raised in Vallejo, Kevin Cabugao received his BS in Genetics at the University of California at Davis and worked in biotechnology before refocusing his energies towards graduate school. While Kevin found his work in the pharmaceutical industry rewarding, he felt unsatisfied with his career and sought an education that would best complement his enthusiasm for helping others with his understanding of the sciences. With this intention, he received his MBA from California State University East Bay and DDS from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry. Currently, he is an active member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association as a part of the Board of Component Relations and has served as the former President of the Napa/Solano Dental Society.
When away from the office, Kevin enjoys listening to music, snowboarding and honing his martial arts as a 4th degree Kajukenbo black belt with over 30 years of experience!
Dr. Paul Belusko
Born and raised in Oregon, Dr. Paul Belusko earned his degree in Biochemistry from Portland State where it was while working in Biotechnology that he realized his calling to serve others was best expressed as a compassionate care provider within dentistry. Soon after, Dr. Belusko attended dental school at Columbia University and graduated with high honors.
During this time, he had the privilege of volunteering as a student dentist serving throughout the rural parts of Jamaica and joined a hospital residency at Mount Sinai School of Medicine that partnered with the nearby Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in the Bronx. As a resident he worked on complex dental cases and added advanced dental implant techniques to his clinical practice. With a surgical skill set greater than most general dentists, Dr. Paul has also earned his fellowship with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
After residency, Dr. Belusko returned to the West Coast to serve our veterans at the Washington State VA for several years. Soon after, he travelled south with his wife back to her home state of California, settling down in Napa to be closer to her family and to enjoy the natural beauty of our region as an avid skier, hiker and cyclist. With his wife, keeping his family and community first, Dr. Paul has two children and enjoys mentoring to the local youth as a Napa County 4-H leader in archery and at 4-H camp.
Crown Materials and How Long They Last
Most crowns today are made from tooth colored ceramic, which can be shaded to blend with your natural teeth. Stronger ceramic materials suit back teeth that handle heavy chewing, while more translucent options work well for front teeth where looks matter most.
A well made crown can last many years with good care. Brushing, flossing around the gumline, regular cleanings, and a night guard if you grind your teeth all help protect it.
The Crown Process at Our Napa Office
We start with an exam and digital images to check the tooth, the nerve, and the surrounding gums. If decay or a crack has reached deeper, we explain whether other care is needed first.
At the crown appointment, the tooth is numbed and shaped so the crown can fit over it. We take precise records of your bite and choose a shade that matches your other teeth. A temporary crown protects the tooth until the final crown is ready, then we check the fit, adjust your bite, and bond it in place.
Crowns Compared With Other Options
Not every damaged tooth needs a full crown. Smaller damage can often be repaired with a filling or bonding, which saves more natural tooth. For front teeth that are healthy but stained or chipped, porcelain veneers in Napa may be a better fit.
When a tooth is missing rather than damaged, crowns become part of a larger plan, such as a dental bridge or an implant. Our dentists recommend the most conservative option that will hold up.
Cost of Dental Crowns and Payment Options
Crown cost depends on the material, the tooth involved, and whether other treatment is needed first. Because crowns restore function, many PPO plans cover a portion of the cost, and our team can submit claims for any amount your plan allows.
You receive a written estimate before treatment begins. Dental financing can spread the cost into monthly payments if you need several crowns.

Dental Crown Questions
Does getting a crown hurt?
The tooth is fully numbed while we prepare it, so most patients feel only pressure. Mild sensitivity for a few days afterward is normal.
How long does a dental crown last?
Many crowns last for years with good brushing, flossing, and regular checkups. Grinding and chewing very hard objects can shorten their life.
Will my crown match my other teeth?
Yes. We select a shade and shape that blend with your neighboring teeth. If you plan to whiten, we recommend doing it before your crown shade is chosen.
Do I need a crown after a root canal?
Often, yes, especially on back teeth. A tooth treated with a root canal can become brittle, and a crown helps protect it from breaking.
Can a crown be placed on an implant?
Yes. After an implant heals, a custom crown is attached on top so it looks and works like a natural tooth.
